Youth Production and Class Policies aka “The Fine Print”

Improv Playhouse is committed to providing a safe and positive creative environment for our students, and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, religious affiliation, or any other factor in the registration of students or the hiring of staff. As deemed necessary or desirable by IP staff, however, Improv Playhouse Theater reserves the right to withdraw or refuse registration of, and to expel, any student or students who conduct themselves in a manner that is not conducive to a safe and positive creative environment. Students are expected to be courteous and respectful at all times to other students, IP teachers, IP staff, and IP property. IP is not responsible for any injuries sustained on its premises.

MAKE-UP CLASS POLICY: Due to the cohesive ensemble we form in each class and production, if a student misses a class, there are no make-up classes. The student cannot come to a similar class on a different day to attempt to make up the missed class, and there are no refunds or pro-rating. If a class is cancelled due to weather, no make-up classes will be scheduled & no refund will be offered.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: Generally, Improv Playhouse Classes will go on as scheduled regardless of inclement weather. If a class is cancelled due to weather, no make-up classes will be scheduled & no refund will be offered. Please note that even if Improv Playhouse decides to maintain business as usual, families and students are expected to take personal responsibility for their own safety. If conditions make it unsafe for you to travel to Improv Playhouse, please remain where you are safe and make alternate arrangements with your teachers for any class work that may be missed.

SPECIAL NEEDS: Our classes are fairly physical and highly interactive. If your child is not able to participate in these normal class activities with or without reasonable accommodation, please advise. Our staff is not responsible for, nor are they trained to support children with special needs. Without exception parents or guardians of potential students within the spectrum of special needs are required to submit health related documents which may include a request for their child’s IEP (Individual Education Program). Improv Playhouse Theater administrators hold the right to accept or refuse students based on this criteria so as to support the organization’s training center guidelines. If you need additional information about our classes to make this assessment, please call the IP Studio Office at 847-968-4529.

Parents, please keep in mind: Improv Playhouse Theater cannot be responsible for children before or after class time. It is the responsibility of the parent to be at the Center on time to pick up their children. Teaching staff is not on site outside of class hours.

FEES: Fees DO NOT include production makeup kit, costumes, field trip costs or tickets to performances. Fees include instruction/coaching, royalties, script costs, administration, support, facility rental and set-up fees.

TUITION: Tuition is non-transferable & non-refundable and no discounts will be applied unless otherwise specified as IP Policy.  Full registration fees are required upon registration prior to class or workshop session unless a scholarship applies or a negotiated payment plan demonstrates financial need.  Students who provide written notice of cancellation within ONE WEEK (Seven working days, excluding Saturday, Sunday, and federal and state holidays)of paying tuition before the first class are entitled to a refund of all monies paid, excluding a nonrefundable, $50 administration fee.  Tuition is forfeited if cancellation occurs less than 7 days prior to first class, workshop or production.  Balance will become a customer credit should cancellation occur within the 7 days prior to first class or may be applied to another, concurrent or future class within one year of that registration date.  Refunds, credits, or proration will not be issued for registrants who are absent or unable to attend for any reason. Registration fee and any monthly payments prior to last day of attendance during class, workshop or production sessions are non-refundable. All refunds will be provided via check within 30 (thirty) days or by month’s end (whichever is sooner) of withdrawal or cancellation.

ATTENDANCE: Failure to attend 2 rehearsals without an EXCUSED ABSENCE or any other excessive absences may result in dismissal from a particular production. Cast members are expected to notify, in advance, either the Director or the Improv Playhouse™ office if they will be absent at any time. Failure to notify the Director for any reason will constitute an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE. Attendance is mandatory beginning with the Sunday of the last two- (2) weeks prior to any performance. Failure to attend any rehearsal during this final two-week period on stage will result, in most cases, in exclusion from any further productions with Improv Playhouse™.

BEHAVIOR: Continued undisciplined behavior that frequently causes disruptions to the rehearsal process, disrespect towards any adult, parent, volunteer, and supervisors or to other cast members will not be tolerated. Disruptive behavior that is continuous may result in a formal, verbal reprimand and/or a parent/youth conference with the Director and Producer. Problem behavior that cannot be resolved may result in a complete dismissal from the present and future Improv Playhouse™ production and training programs.

CASTING: Roles will be assigned based on demonstrated ability, cooperation, and suitability for the role. Students presently in IP training are given first consideration, but this does not guarantee being cast in productions. Decisions in casting are made by the Director, Artistic Director, Producer and or other staff members. IP Staff will not discuss casting decisions with cast members or cast member’s parents. Every member of the cast is expected to engage in and perform each role received with enthusiasm and dedication within and outside of the rehearsal space. An actor’s role may be substituted or replaced by another actor if responsibilities for their part are not upheld. Consequently, another role may be offered to that actor. Members may be dismissed from their role for uncooperative attitudes or for non-attendance at scheduled rehearsals. Unsolicited stage advice or direction from one actor to another is not permitted.
